warned......................

But a value system which glorifies wealth and accumulation, which builds itself on a platform of want, which inflames and creates more of it daily through a marketing machine that colonizes the human mind—this is what every spiritual tradition in history has warned against, and with good reason.

the basics.....................

A lot of success in life is just putting yourself in a position for good things to happen to you.

+ Be reliable
+ Avoid drama
+ Help other people win
+ Take care of your body
+ Take care of your mind
+ Live below your means
+ Treat your job as if it matters
+ Take care of your relationships

Simple, but not easy.

-Shane Parrish, from this episode

And once social media arrives, the civilization will struggle to survive.

-Seth Godin

masks off.................

Most people fear a surveillance state. Me? I fear the people who fear the surveillance state. I wish there were cameras everywhere watching everything and that we all had access to them. Because we are beginning to lose the behavioral feedback loop that kept us in line.

A worthy aim......................

Try this:  Write down what you want your obituary to say, then figure out how to live up to it.

-Morgan Housel

Not sure this is sustainable..............

Home equity for all American homeowners has nearly doubled from $19.5 trillion at the end of 2019 to almost $36 trillion today. The $16 trillion gain in the past 6 years is more than the total amount of home equity heading into 2017.

The combination of a housing and stock market boom means U.S. households have never been richer than they are today. We’ve minted a lot of millionaires this cycle.

According to Bloomberg, there are now more than 24 million millionaire households in America which is around 1 in 5 households. One-third of this group has become a millionaire in the past 8 years.

Wisdom from Michael Wade..........

They become experts in success by learning a great deal about failure.

An assortment of what ifs:

    - Einstein was not permitted to leave Germany.
    - Mussolini decided to ally Italy with Spain and Portugal instead of Germany.
    - The American aircraft carriers were in Pearl Harbor when Japan attacked.
    - Hitler decided to take the Suez Canal instead of invading the Soviet Union.
    - Mahatma Gandhi simply practiced law.
    - Senator Robert F. Kennedy had not been assassinated.
    - Elon Musk decided to stay in South Africa.

So much for European sophistication. Having loose borders without considering the nature of the cultures being welcomed sparks the natural question: Why?

No matter what, disdain victimhood. Don’t keep score on what you’ve done for others. Turn setbacks into a springboard. Do more than what is required.

He knew something that the rest of us missed. Insight often arrives when you take a walk, a swim, or some other activity completely unrelated to your fears.

Beware of the model...................

In France, as it turned out, the actual people (in contrast with the abstract notion of 'The People') wanted justice from their rulers rather than their beheading.  Their aim, if they could be said to have one, was to make customary ways work better for them, not to overthrow them all from the bottom up.  The elite Revolutionaries, though, had other ideas:  those 'customary ways' were obstacles to be swept away, and once that was achieved, a new world would triumph.  It's an old story now, and it usually leads to the same destination: the mass liquidation of those who don't fit the model.
