Clay Shirky would say, absolutely, yes! He was a keynote at an EDUCAUSE (higher education IT) conference a few years ago, and I remember something he said that's stuck with me since: As much as people make fun of LOL Cats and ICanHaveCheeseburger, the people who were posting funny pictures of cats on the Internet were actually doing something beyond passively consuming entertainment. He said any act of creation, no matter how small, was infinitely better better than doing nothing.
