"Too many people are thinking of security instead of opportunity;
they seem more afraid of life than of death."
-James F. Byrnes
Editors note: Mid-twentieth century American history was not my
forte in school. At that point in time, you could hardly call it
"history." So, it was with great interest that I read the
Wikipedia entry on Byrnes. Loved this quote: "In part as a reward
for his crucial support on many issues, Roosevelt appointed
Byrnes an Associate Justice of the Supreme Court in July 1941.
This position did not suit him; he became bored and resigned
from the Court after only 15 months."

From the quotation, I think I wish he had stayed.
