For both meditation and playing music, this means the brain needs to deactivate circuits associated with self-consciousness and with judgment—the finger-wagging schoolteacher in your brain that is saying "that's terrible!" or "you're not good enough." That school marm is useful when you are editing, but anathema to creativity and spontaneity.
