The tale of two cities.........................
How did Pittsburgh avoid the current messiness that now characterizes Detroit? One city highly dependent on the steel industry, the other on the automotive industry. Both industries went through wrenching change. Pittsburgh is now a growing and vibrant city. Detroit not so much. What happened? A better football team is the easy answer, but there is more too it than that. Read about it here and here.

Ah, but it IS the football team. One Ohio city had Art Modell. I don't know who Detroit had. Pittsburgh has the Rooneys. Family patriarchs make a difference in setting the tone in a city.
