The "Million Dollar Quartet"..................

My Sweetie and I ventured out to Newark's Weathervane Playhouse last evening.  On the bill was their final performance of Million Dollar Quartet.  (Carl Perkins, Johnny Cash, Elvis Presley, and Jerry Lee Lewis all putting on a show for Sam Phillips at Sun Records).  Amazing doesn't quite do justice to the show. Special kudos to Connor Richardson for his impersonation of Jerry Lee Lewis.  Live theatre at its finest.

Stand thou forth.........................

I am not a day of season,
For thou mayst see a sunshine and a hail
In me at once.  But to the brightest beams
Distracted clouds give way, so stand thou forth,
The time is fair again.

Remedies................................

Our remedies oft in ourselves do lie,
Which we ascribe to heaven.  The fated sky
Gives us free scope;  only doth backward pull
Our slow designs when we ourselves are dull.

A Chorus Line...........................

Last night, my Sweetie and I ventured out to Weathervane Playhouse to catch their final performance of A Chorus Line.   Unbelievable talent, both voice and dance, graced the stage.  It was really, really well done.  Newark is very blessed to have such a great resource like Weathervane.  Next up, in two weeks, is I Hate Hamlet.

Awakening..............................

The Music Man............Shirley Jones.............Till There Was You

There were bells on the hill
But I never heard them ringing,
No, I never heard them at all
Till there was you.

There were birds in the sky
But I never saw them winging
No, I never saw them at all
Till there was you.

And there was music,
And there were wonderful roses,
They tell me,
In sweet fragrant meadows of dawn, and dew.

There was love all around
But I never heard it singing
No, I never heard it at all
Till there was you!

One of the finest speeches ever.....

the true joy.................................

"This is the true joy in life, the being used for a purpose recognized by yourself as a mighty one; the being thoroughly worn out before you are thrown on the scrap heap; the being a force of Nature instead of a feverish selfish little clod of ailments and grievances complaining that the world will not devote itself to making you happy."

-George Bernard Shaw, as extracted from Man and Superman

Arlo Guthrie.............................................Alice's Restaurant

Ed. Note:   We have been known to post  this song over the Thanksgiving holiday. However, last night (actually "tonight" as this is being posted prior to the concert) we made our way to the fabulous Midland Theatre to see Arlo live and in person.  Word has it that Alice's Restaurant is on the menu.

Once.............................................

My Sweetie and I ventured to the big city to watch the matinee performance of the play Once at the wonderful Palace Theatre.  If you ever get the chance, do see this interesting, enjoyable and creative stage play, adapted from this film.

Jesus Christ Superstar..........................

Last night my sweetie and I went to the Weathervane Playhouse to experience Jesus Christ Superstar on stage.  It was a take-your-breath-away kind of performance.  The staging, the voices, the choreography were all superb.  The quality of the shows at Weathervane continues to amaze.  Since most of you were not there, feel free to listen two of the songs from the show:  I Don't Know How To Love Him, and Everything's Alright.

Les Mis..................................

My Sweetie and I attended a performance of Les Miserables at Newark's fabulous Weathervane Playhouse this weekend.  A stunning show!  The cast was superb, voices in fine form, and the set amazing.   The story is not light-hearted, but any tale of redemption is worth paying attention to. It is a rare theatrical performance that will bring tears to my eyes.  This one did.  It plays through next weekend.  If you have the chance, go experience it.   The company may differ from the one below, but they were still special.

Saturday night at the Theatre...........................

My Sweetie and I went to see Oliver! at the fabulous Weathervane Playhouse last night. Long time local stage stalwart, and fan favorite, Dennis Kohler owns the  role of Fagin.  He did not disappoint.

Guys and Dolls.........................

Saturday night, my Sweetie and I took the two mile trip north to Weathervane Playhouse.  There we were thoroughly entertained by the final show of the season opening Guys & Dolls.  The cast was top notch, their voices first rate, and the choreography and dancing has never been better on that stage.  Great fun was had by all.  We are looking forward to the rest of the season!

While the video below is not from Weathervane, it nicely-nicely projects the talent and energy present on stage Saturday night.
